Young and old were drawn into the war, helping the soldiers with various donations, and not just money.

“Help from the Children. By susbscriptions among themselves, the children attending Denne Road Girls’ School [Horsham] (of which Miss Bentley is the head mistress) have been able to send three blankets and a number of pairs of socks for the benefit of the soldiers.

“With a few shillings still in hand wool will be purchased for the making of more socks.”
