A serious hunting accident happened on Saturday afternoon soon after the meet of the Crawley and Horsham Foxhounds at Shipley Green.

Between Shipley and West Grinstead, Mr Austen Bevan, the son of Mr B Y Bevan, JP, of Woodcroft, Cuckfield, was thrown over a fence through his hunter falling.

And in scrambling over afterwards the horse plunged its knee into Mr Bevan’s abdomen. causing much internal injury.

He was eventually placed in a motor car, conveyed home to Cuckfield and medically attended.
