Big contrast from 100 years ago, with crowds cheering a plane and today with concerns over more planes flying over the county.

“Towards the close of the Royal Engineer’s Show on the Horsham Football Ground on Whit Monday,at 7.15pm there was much excitement at the approach of a biplane, which was rightly concluded to be that of Mr Wm. H. Elliott, of the Shoreham Flying School.

“The well-know aviator, who was accompanied by Mr B. H. England, delighted the crowd with evolutions at a height of from 88 to 1,000 feet and loudly cheered when well over the ground.”
