With so many soldiers in town, the Horsham churches were very busy for services.

“With nearly 700 members of the 4th Reserve Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment and almost 300 of the Royal Fusiliers at the Horsham Parish Church on Sunday morning the fine old building was well filled.

“There was no choir but Mr Stanley Sutton was at the organ and the singing was hearty and congregational.”
