“Writing on November 8th to his mother and sister at Horsham, Trooper A. Russell of the 1st Life Guards says - ‘Just a few lines telling you I am still alive, one of the few lucky ones.

“There is only a very smnall handful of us left now, for we have lost very heavily since we have been out here and they have given us a proper name too, the Fire Brigade, always ready and under fire’...”
