The County Times published all manner of tips and advice back in 1914. We certainly can’t recommend the use of paraffin in this way today, though.

“Oiled dusters. Take a piece of soft material and soak it in paraffin, wring it out, and hang it in the air to dry. It is then ready for use.

“There will be no umpleasant odour. and you will find that it gathers up the dirt most effectively and gives a brilliant polish to mirrors and gas globes, if you rub them afterwards with a soft rubber.”
