An example of motorbikes and horses not being a good mix on the road in 1914.

“On Tuesday morning Mr Thomas Baker, of Denne Parade, (general foreman in the employ of Messrs Rowland Bros, builders & co) met with a nasty accident when motor-cycling in the Holbrook Road.

“When meeting a horse and trap the animal shied and in the endeavour to avoid a collision, Mr Baker had an awkward fall from his machine.

“He was conveyed to the Horsham Cottage Hospital where it was found that he had fractured his leg and damaged his shoulder. Good progress is being made.”
