Although the people involved weren’t local, County Times readers would have been interested in this murder at Three Bridges.

This just an excerpt of the full report which gave a lot of detail.

“At Sussex Assizes, on Tuesday, Herbert Brooker, 32, Naval Reservist, of Woolwich, was indicted for the murder of Ada Stone in a train at Three Bridges, on April 25.

“The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder, with the recommendation to mercy on account of the prisoner’s good service to his country. Sentence of death was pronounced.”
