The County Times carried a wide variety of columns, advice and tips back in 1914. Here is a slightly unusual but, no doubt, useful idea.
“Paper hanger’s paste. A good adhesive paste can be made by dissolving 1oz of alum in a quart of warm water; when cold add flour enough to make it the consoistency of cream; the stir into it a teaspoonful of powdered rosin.
“Boil it to a proper consistency; stirring it all the time. It will keep for 12 months, and when dry may be softened with water.”
