The County Times in 1914 carried all kinds of information, including recipes. We make no excuse for reprinting this one - it just sounds very tasty!
“Lemon Rice Pudding. To one cupful of boiled rice add the grated rind of a lemon, butter the size of an egg, the beaten yolks of three eggs and one pint of milk.
“Bake for twenty minutes. Beat the whites of the eggs stiff with one cupful of sugar and the juice of the lemon, spread over the top of the pudding when done, return to the oven to brown slightfully.”
For those new to this feature, we are reprinting stories from the County Times in 1914 as part of the commemoration of the First World War.
The idea is to build up a picture of what life was like 100 years ago as a background to the stories we will be carrying about the Great War.
