Have your say

There were mixed feelings about sport being played while men fought in war.

“Sir, I noticed in your last week’s paper a paragraph under the heading of ‘Work for the Civil Guard’.

“If this is the work Mr Blunt proposes to give the Civil Guard I think they will be kept busy for a time.

“Why stop football in particular? Football is the working man’s sport, so if you propose to stop football why not stop golf, tennis and other games. They are just as bad or quite as good as football.

“The football league have decided that for the good of the country football should continue, and I think there are others in Horsham who share the same views as myself. I remain A Local Footballer”
