The YMCA took an active interest in helping troops in Horsham, making their life easier and providing help where needed.

“Sir, Now that Horsham has had the privilege of becoming the Headquarters of the 4th Batt Royal Sussex Territorials, and it seems probable that we shall have a thousand men quartered in the town very shortly, it is, I thnk, only right that the local public and all well wishers of our gallant troops should be informed of the steps being taken by our branch of the Young Men’s Christian Association to show hospitality to the men and provide them with suitable opportunities for recreation and for the supply of their spirituasl as well as their social needs.
