Another sad notice in the County Times. The area around Ypres would see nearly two million soldiers and civilians killed or wounded during the war.

“On Monday Mrs F. Collins, of 2 Park Terrace West, Horsham, received official notice from Hounslow, of the death of Private John Collins, of the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Gegiment.

“It appears that this Horsham soldier who was 31 last May and unmarried, died on 31st October from wounds received at Ypres.

“Private Collins saw nearly seven years of service with his Battalion in India and was within a few months of finishing his time on Reserve when the war broke out and he was called up for service.
