The International Peace and Arbitration Society was founded in London with the aim of finding non-aggressive ways of addressing conflict.

“At a meeting of the Horsham Peace and Arbitration Society held on Thursday the following resolution was passed.

“‘This society while strongly deploring the current war, urges the Government to mitigate its immediate evils by devising means to maintain a maximum of employment and by instituting Citizen Committees to ensure an adequate supply of food to the poor.”
