We need a bit of help with this latest report from 1914. What was Bon Marche? Certainly not the modern-day clothing retailer which was only founded in 1982.

“At an early hour this morning a destructive fire broke out at the Bon Marche in Queen Street, next to the Railway Bridge [Horsham].

“Fortunately the Fire Brigade, by capital work, succeeded in confining the outbreak to No. 1 , but the content of the shop and ground floor right through to the back were destroyed.”
