An interesting letter to the County Times, incorporating many of the pub names around Horsham.

“A Horsham query as to the Kaiser. Sir, will you give me a small space in your paper to ask the following.

“Won’t the Kaiser in running away from ‘The Bear’ fall in to the ‘Tanners Arms’ where he will find a ‘Jolly Plough Boy’, who will put up a ‘Stout House’ to save the ‘King’s Head’.

“ he can’t find a place to ‘Anchor’ in the sun, hadn’t he better try the ‘Star’; if unsuccessful he won’t like the contents of his ‘Paunch Bowl’.

“No doubt it was a ‘Good Intent’ but he can’t have the ‘Castle’ or the ‘Crown’ and he will run like the ‘Fox and Hounds’ to save his ‘Dog and Bacon’.”
