Recruitment was not just for the regiments fighting abroad, as this report shows, men were also signing up for the reservists.

“Amid rumours of more troops to pass through Horsham and of the liklihood of the War Office approving of a local depot, steady progress has been made this week with the recruiting for the 4th (Reserve) Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment.

“Residents have shown keen interest in the drill of the daily increasing band of recruits. The Headquarters are at the Drill Hall in Park Street... The start was made on Monday and on Thursday morning the total reached 80.”
