We can only imagine the anxiety this family went through, waiting for news and the relief when it arrived.

“On Saturday Mr and Mrs E. King, of 42 North Street [Horsham], received news of their son from friends in Ireland, who had a postcard from Corporal C.H. King stating that he was a prisoner, was in good health, and was being well looked after.

“It will be recalled that Corporal King of the 4th Signalling Company was posted as ‘missing’ since August 26th. It now appears that he was captured by the Germans while cable laying. Apparently his letters home have gone astray.”
