A County Times letter discussing an ongoing topic of ‘earlier’ closing. However, it’s interesting to see August and September were considered ‘holiday months’ for businesses.

“Re the Earlier Closing Movement now before your readers as a result of the past few weeks’ correspondence, may I suggest that as it is obviously too late this summer to do anything of a permanent nature, the traders concerned might, as an experiment, commence the seven o’clock closing on August 4th (after the Bank Holiday) instead of waiting until October 1st.

“These months of August and September are more or less holiday months, and business is slack.”
