June 1914 was obviously a dry summer month 100 years ago.

“Although the drought came to an end last week there was no appreciable fall of rain, the amount this month up to Tuesday only totalling .36, very little more than a third of an inch.

“The heaviest gall was on Sunday morning, Mr H. Padwiick J.P. recordinf .23 in the Manor House grounds.”
