We moan about the potholes across the county, but 100 years ago it appears the country lanes were very bad.

“Despite the bad weather last weekend several members of the Horsham Unity Cycling Club attended the run to Bognor last Sunday.

“The country was looking at its best and Thakeham Hollow, which was visited on the return journey, was found to well merit its inclusion amongst England’s beauty spots.

“The roads were in a bad condition in several places, but although the cyclists had several punctures to repair on the return journey, they all look back on the outing with pleasure.”
