Horsham, like many towns, saw numerous Belgian refugees arrive and stay in people’s homes.

“Sir, Joyous Xmas-Tide is approaching, a season when all the world should be full of brightness, but this Xams will dawn with sorrow hanging on thousands of hearts and homes.

“In and around our own town there are many brave Belgians from the country over the way whom we have warmly welcomed and cared for.

“It is to try and bring a little brightness to these that we are getting up an entertainment at the Albion Hall on Wednesday December 30th for which Mrs Bostock is most kindly providing an Xmas tree for the little ones and we would ask any from our town to generously help us... Hilda M. Oddie, H.M. Jukes”
