It was good for morale to get people at home involved in the war effort and supplying blankets was as good a project as any.

“Lord Kitchener’s appeal for blankets. As a result of the appeal for the above, made locally by Messrs Chart and Lawrence, upwards of 70 blankets have been received by them up to Wednesday night and sent to the military authorities.

“J.W. Arundel, draper and clothier can supply you with blankets, overcoats, socks &c if you are purchasing any for our soldiers in response to Lord Kitchener’s Appeal.”
