A fascinating letter which allows a German perspective of the war.

“A lady residing in the neighbourhood of Horsham last week received the following letter from a German acquaintance to whom she extended hospitality last year.

“Dear Mrs -- Will you be as kind to allow me to interest you in hearing the strictest truth about the great German war, which has been pressed upon us without our will.

“Being obliged to pass through Belgia [sic] in order to prevent a French invasion into our country, we never intended to attack the Belgians if they granted free passage to our soldiers...

“Our soldiers when blessed (blesse, wounded) were murdered in the most cruel way that human corruption can imagine.”
