Suspicions may well have been high when this person was found drunk and was found to be German.

“Martin Waldmann was charged with drunkeness. P.S. Wareham said that when in company with P.C. Monk in the Carfax at 12.45pm on the previous day he found defendant drunk.

“Supt Wakeford said the man was a German alien and had been granted a permit to travel to London. He should have caught the 9.40 train and had plenty of time. Fined 5s, in default seven days’ hard labour.”
