In this, the latest in our daily news reports taken from the West Sussex County Times of 1914, we discover riding a bike without a light was a serious offence.

“Henry Butcher of Ridge Farm, Rowhook, was summoned for riding a bicycle without a light at Horsham at 5.45pm on January 1st. Fined 2s 6d.

“Horace Lee, milkman, of Hawkesbourne Farm, Hurst Hill, was summoned for a like offence at 5.25pm on December 31st. He wrote to the Bench. Fined 2s 6d.”
