An excerpt from a report on a Hare Hunt from 1914 - the hares survived on this occasion.
“Faygate: Hare hunt - By the kind permission of Col Clifton Brown the fifty-sixth annual ‘Hare’ hunt took place at Faygate on Wednesday.
“There was a good attendance of those interested in the sport. The arrangements were successfully carried out by Mr Abe Gent and the hounds were brought up from Turner’s Hill.
“Several hares were set on the run followed closely by Nobby Cox, Bert Denman and W. Allingham, but the hares were too smart.”
