An interesting event showing the way the troops were respected at the start of the war.

“Proof of the excellent feeling existing between soldier and civilian was forthcoming at the Station Hotel, Horsham, on Thursday night at a dinner given by a few boys of the Kensington Battalion Royal Fusiliers and some well-known local tradesmen...

“A susbstantial repast was put before the company by Host Roberts and subsequently the National Anthem preceded smoke, song and toast, the varied programme being greatly appreciated including as it did songs by ‘stars’ who have sacrificed much in patriotically responding to the call of the Empire.”
