Interesting to note that in 1914 there was a measles epidemic.

“Southwater: The Christmas treat, long deferred owing to the measles epidemic, was given to the scholars of the Wesleyan Sunday School, on Tuesday evening, and combined with the annual prize distribution.

“A fine tree was tastefully stocked with useful presents and the advent of Father Christmas (a character well assumed by the Hon. Secretary Mr J. Chislett) at 6.30 created much amusement.”
