As far as we can find out, Keating’s was a powder that, among other things, kept fleas at bay.

“On Tuesday as the result of a ‘whip round’ at the Horsham Electricity Works a capital consignment of ‘comforts’ was despatched to a member of the staff who is in the firing line.

“The box included warm clothes, peppermints, chocolates, vaseline. pipe, tobacco, etc etc. The etceteras comprise, among other things, a tin of ‘Keating’s’.”
