Trying to be clever when you have just broken the law has never been a good idea as this Horsham court story shows.

“Charles Ashton Millington, of London Place, Islington North, went at the rate of 18 miles 1,320 yards an hour.

“When told the speed he said to P.C. Trott: ‘You talk rot, the _ old thing won’t do 18 miles an hour (laughter). Fined £1 and costs.”
