An airship and plane passing over Horsham made big news back in 1914.

“Aerial Voyagers - At one o’clock on Monday a balloon attached to ther Naval Airship Section of the Royal Flying Corps passed over Horsham.

“It subsequently transpired that it was on its way from Farnborough to Cuckfield, covering the distance, some 37 miless, in 1hr 45mins.

“Her five passengers made a safe descent. In the afternoon, Mr Raynham, in an Avro aeroplane, passed over the town on his return journey from Shoreham Aerodrome to Brooklands.

“On his trip to the coast in the morning, when he passed wide of Horsham, he was carrying passengers.”
