Mixture of music
LOXWOOD Jazz and Blues club are confidently looking forward to their March event after their February show proved a sell-out with the hall buzzing to the tunes of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and The Rat Pack, performed by the band Simply Swing, led by Simon Bates.
More than half the tickets for the March night were sold during the evening.
On Tuesday March 16 Simon Bates will be joined by Paul Eshelby on trumpet and flugel, John Pierce on piano, Andy Grossart on bass and Malcom Mortimore on drums.
Club spokeswoman Jean Spira said: "Paul Eshelby is a trumpeter whose career has seen him play as a member of the BBC Scottish Radio Orchestra, the BBC Radio Orchestra and BBC Big Band, as well as work with the world's leading artists from Pavarotti to Rod Stewart via Shirley Bassey, Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Connick Jnr and Queen.
"John Pierce has a reputation as the first-call accompanist for many artists. He has played the piano with the BBC Radio Orchestra, Billy May, the James Last Orchestra, and Ronnie Scott amongst many others.
"Andy Grossart is a bass player equally at home on electric and upright bass and a singer of great class. His versatility and musicianship has led him to work with many stars including Roxy Music, The Supremes, Andy Williams, Jack Jones, Tina Turner, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, and Don Black.
"Malcom Mortimore is a well-known local drummer who started his career as part of the band Gentle Giant. His varied career has led him to work with many artists including Tom Jones, Ian Dury, Mick Jagger, Frankie Miller, Charlie Byrd, Scott Hamilton and Arthur Brown."
Jean added: "World-class musicians will be playing a mixture of jazz and blues in Loxwood on the third Tuesday of every month at the new Loxwood Jazz and Blues club at 8pm. The money raised will go towards the extension and refurbishment of this village hall. There will be a licensed bar with real ale. Tickets bought in advance are 8 (10 on the door) and are available from Loxwood Post Office and Anita Bates on 01403 752 954.
