First kids festival
THE FIRST Brighton Children's Book Festival will be held on Saturday (April 21) at the Sallis Benney Theatre, Grand Parade, Brighton.
Celebrating and showcasing the wealth of talent found in the south, this event includes talks by renowned authors, poets and illustrators.
Speakers include William Nicholson (The Wind on Fire trilogy), Nicky Singer (Feather Boy), John Vernon Lord (The Giant Jam Sandwich) and a presentation about the southern region and its historical authors by expert Nick Tucker (Rough Guide to Children's Books).
Laura Atkins, the festival director, said: "Writing for children is one of the special strengths of southern writing and the area has long provided home and inspiration to important children's book creators – including A.A. Milne, Rudyard Kipling, Frances Hodgson Burnett and Rosemary Sutcliff.
"With a wealth of talented authors and artists active in the region today, this event is the perfect way for parents, teachers, librarians, writers, illustrators, and all who love children's books to be entertained and inspired."
The event is from 10am until 7pm. Tickets: 01273 571700 (www.thesouth.org.uk).
