Dracula's Hotel of Horrors: review by Richard Honeyman
MADDIES Youth Group performed their first production last week and what a show it was.
The newly formed youth group of MAD – Meeching Amateur Dramatics – put on a stirling performance under the auspices of this amateur dramatic society.
A comedy, although from the title you might have thought otherwise, the actors were all in the 12 to 17 age group.
The setting was in a reception area of Dracula's five star hotel and centered mainly on its many guests including the one human whose sole intention everyone wanted to 'eat'.
Main characters were the Count Dracula himself played by Daly Tucknott who put on a strong performance and his wife the Countess ably acted by Rebecca Woolven.
Harry Stubley in his first ever role was excellent as Egor and his bent over double back role was great – his timings were impeccable and projected his voice superbly.
Imogen Corbett played the Human and in fact was the only person who wore modern style clothes and was very competent.
All the other eight support roles were again well played.
Jonathan Ward led the final section with a full cast rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' dance routine which was fully choreographed as you would expect it to be.
The audience was very enthusiastic and the encore was part of this repeated.
The play was written and directed by Daniel Chandler who has had lead roles previously with MAD – younger behind the scene helpers also shadowed the director, lighting, sound, makeup, props etc.
Other MAD stalwarts were also on hand.
Overall, it was a brilliant start to the group and hopefully will continue with further productions.
The play ran at Meeching Hall from August 18-20.
