Daniel plays Elton's music

CHICHESTER'S Daniel Humphreys will be celebrating the music of Elton John in a special concert for the Selsey Festival.

Singer and pianist Daniel will be joined by bass, guitar and drums on stage on Saturday August 7 at Manhood Community College, Selsey, offering some of the great man's greatest songs.

Tickets are 5 through www.selseyfestivities.co.uk, with Daniel donating all proceeds to The Elton John Aids Foundation.

"I have always been a big fan of Elton John's music, growing up listening to it", Daniel says.

"But for this concert, we will be trying to put our own spin on it. We don't like the idea of just trying to copy exactly what he does. Within the music we are adding bits or taking bits out that we don't like but not to the extreme that you won't know what song it is. It is just that we are trying to make it our own and different."

Daniel loves the sheer variety you get with Elton John, as typified by the contrast between two of his own favourite songs, Rocket Man and Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting.

"He started off with outrageous costumes and flamboyant attitudes, and that's what made him unique in those early days. Now he has toned it down a bit, but there are still some of those elements there."

And Daniel is keen to convey a sense of it all - through plenty of practice.
