A Worthing man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of his wife who was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash.
Anne Hewlett, 36, suffered life-threatening injuries to her legs, liver and head after she was knocked from her bicycle by a van in a late-night collision in Canterbury Road, on February 29.

Police later found a white Ford Transit van abandoned about a mile away from the crash scene and conducted forensic examinations on it.

Her husband, Martin Hewlett, 44, of Guildford Road, was charged on Wednesday and was remanded in custody at a preliminary hearing at Worthing Magistrates' Court.

He will appear at Lewes Crown Court on August 1.
