FORTY customers were forced to evacuate an East Preston hotel last night, (April 5, 2008) when a fire broke out.
It happened at around 10.30pm, at the Premier Inn, Roundstone Lane, when an external air conditioning unit in the back yard, caught fire.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said the unit had been badly damaged by fire, heat and smoke.

She added that staff at the hotel "should be commended" for their decision to evacuate the premises before fire crews arrived.

The fire, which is believed to have been accidental, was out by 11pm.
