Pressure on hospital services

I read the article by Horsham MP Francis Maude (County Times, Horsham edition) regarding the increasing volume of services that the East Surrey Hospital at Redhill is doing its best to provide.

I cannot believe that when I give way to an ambulance with blue lights flashing exiting North Horsham, that the team and their patient still have the incredible journey time to Redhill which, on many occasions, must be a matter of life and death!

We have a local authority intent on developing more and more housing without giving a thought to the infrastructure and services that are already under pressure from the existing residents of the area. It is good to hear that our local hospital is managing to cope well in providing a caring sevice and one would hope that there may be scope to develop on this by providing an extension of their services which, one day, we must hope will incorporate an accident and emergency service.

We do, after all, have parcels of land that are quite suitable for building a hospital rather than the houses that will only produce more people putting more pressure on stretched services!

So more power to your elbow Mr Maude, I sincerely hope that the residents of Horsham take note and give you every support in the future.

Mr and Mrs R. MARSHALL
