Magnificent achievement

Through your newspaper, I would like to pass on the grateful thanks of our charity for the support received during our time as Mannings Heath Golf Club’s Charity of the Year, which concluded at the club’s AGM on Sunday October 21.

The final sum raised through numerous events and membership initiatives totalled £7,006 which, by any standards, was a magnificent achievement.

Geoff Lodge, the men’s captain and Lynne Jones, the ladies captain, chose Springboard Project as their Charity of the Year and during the last 12 months, they have been unstinting in their efforts to raise funds for the hundreds of children, young people and families we support, especially those with disabilities.

Without this kind of support, we simply could not provide the activities and opportunities we do for so many children, young people and families irrespective of their ability or circumstances.

The total raised by the club’s members will have a significant positive impact in our ability to continue this work and I want to assure everyone who contributed that their generosity will make a real difference.

In addition to all their fundraising efforts, the captains organised a ‘Golf Fun Day’ for our disabled children and young people during the summer holidays.

I would like to pass on my thanks to Carl Watts, the club’s professional, for setting the event up and to those junior club members who lent their support by helping with some very creative games and challenges.

The whole day certainly lived up to its billing and was a highlight of our summer activities.

Can I also pass on my grateful thanks to Steve Slinger, the general manager, and all his team for making our charity so welcome throughout the year. Their hospitality was much appreciated.
