Long queues

AFTER the excellent article and publicity on the front page of the County Times Horsham edition, one would have thought that the management of Horsham's Carfax post office would have reacted positively!

But, oh no, the following Tuesday morning, well before 'lunchtime', I stood in the queue for approximately half an hour.

When I arrived there were 3.5 staff at the windows although numbers 3 and 4 were lit but empty. Shortly thereafter, the gentleman on number 1 left to talk to customers, probably about the advertised money and financial products.

So now we were down to 2.5 - the half, by the way, is the member of staff dedicated to 'travel money', and the rest of us – whenever. The long queue on a couple of occasions made it to the entrance. It was raining outside and the majority of the queue were senior citizens.

Seriously, I would like to suggest that this post office was contravening at least two parliamentary statutes; quite apart from its monopoly position in failing to provide 'adequate' services. The two parliamentary acts are Health and Safety and Human Rights.

Before senior management at the Post Office, or anywhere else, 'pooh-pooh' this, I suggest don't 'knee-jerk' – think. Think about the possible adverse consequences of the obviously inefficient and deficient business.

Someone with the sound knowledge of either of these two bedrocks of our society today would run rings around any defence of Post Office current 'practice' in Horsham, Carfax.

Let's hope the Post Office wises up to its inadequacies.
