Letter: Staggering water charges
MATTHEW Wright (Southern Water chief executive) justifies an 8.2 per cent increase in water rates on ‘supporting thousands of jobs while delivering improved services and a wide range of environmental improvements’.
It’s easy to boast about supporting the local economy and creating jobs if you run a business in which you have a monopoly of supply for an essential product for which there is no alternative.
We moved from Guildford 18 months ago and are staggered by the Southern Water charges. Let’s hear more about the efficiencies and cost savings being achieved and less about how Southern Water is pumping more money into the local economy by fleecing its consumers.

Taxed
Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 08:09 AMThe increase is outrageous. They should not be permitted to increase charges by more than CPI. "Supporting jobs" - what a ridiculous attempt to justify overcharging.
