Is town hall plan signed and sealed?

I READ with interest the editorial Comment in the County Times (February 12) regarding plans for Horsham Town Hall, which seemed to suggest that all is signed and sealed.

But is it? According to other reports this is not the case. The council has not yet given a firm answer to whether the deal is done with Bill's Produce Store.

As you say this has gone on long enough, yes it has, but residents are being told so many different stories.

I seem to remember that the council was saying in the first place that money realised from the letting would be around 76,000, now it seems expected to to be 52,000.

All the talk was of the town hall being turned into a restaurant it now appears to be caf and produce store (restaurants and cafs are quite different).

What kind of produce will be sold? Will this have any affect on the Thursday and Saturday markets?

Recently quite a few new restaurants have opened and we still don't know what is happening to the King's Head.

Can Horsham sustain all these eateries? There are so many in Horsham and the areas surrounding the town.

It is being said time and time again that people are not eating out as much. It would be a sorry day indeed if some of the existing places had to close, if they lose custom because more are being allowed to open.

Unfortunately Horsham District Council seems to be a law unto itself – councillors do not listen to the residents' views – this has been said many times in readers' letters.

We have had the debate on the town hall, and the Shelley Fountain.

I wonder what is next on the council's agenda.
