'Inaccurate' times on parking fee machines

COULD I, through your letters page, ask any members of the public using Horsham District Council public car parks to beware of inaccurate times on the pay and display machines in these sites.

I parked in the car park in the Park North, North Street car park by the council offices on Saturday June 6.

On buying my ticket I noticed that the time on the pay and display ticket machine was a full ten minutes behind the correct time on my watch and car clock.

At a not inconsiderable parking charge of 2.10 for three hours it is extremely irritating to be short-changed by ten minutes.

It is just as well that I noticed the error and returned to my vehicle ten minutes early as, had I not done so, I could have received a parking ticket and fine based on the inaccurate time displayed on the ticket.

Regrettably this is not an isolated occurrence as the same thing had happened when I parked in this car park last year although on that occasion the clock was slow by only some five minutes.

On that occasion I wrote to the council to draw the issue to their attention but they did not have the courtesy to reply.

I would suggest that anyone who has had a recent parking ticket issued to them in any of the council's car parks where the overstay has been recorded at around ten minutes may have justified grounds for appealing the consequent fine?
