Pupils become World War II evacuees

On Friday, November 30, children in Bramber and Lewes classes at St. Andrew’s C of E Primary School, Nuthurst were transported back to life as a World War II evacuee.

The children came into school dressed as an evacuee complete with gas mask boxes and name tags.

They were soon split into different groups, allowing them to experience what evacuation would have been like. During the day the children took part in a range of activities such as making model Anderson shelters and experiencing what an air raid was like.

The day culminated with the children partaking in a range of World War Two games that they had researched and created for the day.

The topic will continue with a trip to Newhaven Fort in the coming weeks.
