Church celebrates landmark of major interior re-ordering
St Mary’s Parish Church, Washington has undergone major re-ordering after several years of planning.
Although the works are not entirely complete, a celebration was held this month when the community viewed the improvements and the children of St Mary’s C E First School, Washington gave a delightful concert of Harvest Songs.
On the following Sunday a Dedication Service was held to give thanks for and to dedicate the work.
The service was led by the Rev Julie Sear, and the Ven Roger Combes, Archdeacon of Horsham, preached on ‘ Joy’, using Psalm 100 as text.
It was a joyful weekend of celebration for an efficient heating system, a new floor, comfortable chairs, facilities for children, a kitchen and wc, disabled access, and a particularly handsome glass inner door, all without detracting from the integrity of the original building.
The church is open all day and every day, for everyone to admire the work of the architects, Lee Evans Partnership of Canterbury, builders, Sandells of Worthing, heating engineers Heatcraft of Portslade. Thanks also go from the parish to Viridor Credits, Allchurches Trust Ltd, Max Edlin, and Washington community for generosity and support, and the The Diocesan Advisory Committee for help and advice.
