The Capitol Gallery is hosting a graduate A Level show of art and design from Collyer’s until November 12th.

The students have contributed to work seen throughout the district in the last two years, from Horsham Station to the Queen’s Jubilee Tea Party. This is an opportunity for them to present their final A Level work to the local community, before they leave to further their artistic careers.

Head of Art, Susie McAlister said: “This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to witness talented young artists at the beginning of their career.”

Each year Collyers send around 70 students on to specialist Arts degree courses as diverse as Architecture, Animation, Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration and Fine Art. Students are very well informed about their potential careers within the Arts, which despite the recession, are still very positive within the South of England.

Exhibitor and current student Paula Riley is looking forward to the event: “This is my first exhibition and it is very exciting. The course has allowed me to develop my own interests as an artist and the confidence to apply to study Fine Art at Slade next year.”

The exhibition features work from the Art Department’s three specialist A Levels in Art, Textiles and Graphic Design and includes traditional portraits, posters, fashion inspiration, garments and a host of craft inspired textile objects. Twin artists Liv and Dominique Cave Sutherland feature their exquisite textiles dolls, experimental garments and delicate hand-made sketchbooks in the exhibition. Last month they both started their BA(Hons) in Illustration at Bournemouth and will definitely be artists to watch out for in the future. The show also features the astoundingly original and skilled oil portraits of Laura Turnbull, who has taken the brave move to pursue her career as a portrait painter straight from college.

Susie McAlister added: “This exciting show is generating an incredible amount of interest in Horsham. It runs until 12th November and there really is something to interest everyone!”
