The clergy of Horsham welcomed Christian Aid and Church Action on Poverty’s red double-decker as it stopped outside St Mark’s Church, in North Heath Lane earlier this month.

The bus was on a 52-day tour around the UK and Northern Ireland helping to raise the profile of tax dodging, which costs developing countries an estimated $160 billion a year.

This money Christian Aid says deprives the poorest communities of schools, health care and other vital services.

Rev Richard Coldicott of St Mark’s said it was a pleasure to welcome the bus.

He said: “The scale of the problem, both in the UK and internationally, is deeply disturbing given that tax dodging disproportionately affects the poorest in society.

“As the church serves a loving and just God, it is right for us to support the work of Christian Aid and petition the government to close tax loopholes and clamp down on tax dodging activities by UK-based companies.”
