We regularly hear Horsham is one of the better areas within our country in which to live; I would agree - for most of us, but not for all!

Within our privileged environment there are those who, for one reason or another, are not able to live the quality of life most of us are accustomed to. There are those who struggle with the most challenging circumstances with little or no hope of any improvement in the foreseeable future.

There has however been good news in recent days and weeks, reported in this newspaper, which, linked to so many other good things happening for those less fortunate, may improve that situation. News of a night shelter provided through Horsham Churches Together for the winter months of December to February, for those without a roof over their heads; also news that a scheme managed by Central Sussex YMCA to reduce and hopefully, in time, eliminate more than 350 empty homes in the district which can be used to house families now living in unacceptable conditions. And with other plans in the pipeline to help those struggling to survive the current economic situation there is a chance to make our district a better place for the people in our community who are struggling at the moment.

It is due to the innate goodness within our community that many people volunteer to be part of these efforts to help others in need. Many who offer their help do so in response to the love of God for all people and the command of Christ to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those imprisoned in their current situation (Matthew 25:40). Horsham is indeed a good place to live, made all the more so by those who give of themselves in service to others.
