Be part of a new community allotment for Horsham, by attending a meeting on Thursday March 28, from 8pm at the Friends Meeting Hall, Worthing Road, Horsham.
Jean Griffin, the BBC Surrey and Sussex Radio gardening guru will be there to help and inspire people with the new venture.
The Community Allotment was set up last summer by an enthusiastic group of 8 members of Transition Horsham.
The committee of Chesworth Allotment Society were kind enough to allow them an area of ground to the south of the main allotments, at the bottom of the hill bounded by oak trees and with drains and hidden paths under the soil.
“The first sight of the allotment at our first working party on Sunday July 8 was enough to weaken the resolve of the keenest volunteer,” said Maggie Weir-Wilson.
“It was packed with tall weeds so that we could hardly see the shape of the area that we had.
Nevertheless, good progress was made and we now have five dug beds, a greenhouse and a shed.
“We were very grateful to Newbridge Nurseries who gave us the shed on condition we took it down ourselves.
“This we did one Saturday and it is now proudly standing in the allotment, along with a bench given to us by the Quakers.
“All we need now is a team of Horsham growers who want to get stuck in.
It does not matter whether you want to learn how to grow, or have loads of skills, all are welcome. We want this to be a social, enjoyable way to grow veggies, sharing skills and knowledge.
We have working parties planned as well as social parties, so come and join us.
“Any queries contact us at allotment@transitionhorsham.org.uk, check out the allotment page at www.transitionhorsham.org.uk or just come along on March 28.”
